There are countless real estate transactions occurring in our local market as we speak. Whether it’s a simple, small parcel acquisition or a conglomerate development involving several entities on multiple levels with legal representation on every turn, code of ethics reigns supreme.
As Realtors, our code of ethics and standard practice is our constitution and formal guide. Effective January 1, 2018 the National Association of Realtors updated articles 1-17 representing and mandating duties to clients and customers, duties to the general public and duties to our fellow realtors. To headline a few, a pledge to protect and promote the interest of our clients but not exclusively to the client but an obligation to treat all parties honestly. Realtors shall not be discriminatory against a person or persons on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status, national origin, sexual orientation or gender identity. And Realtors shall not knowingly or recklessly make false or misleading statements about other real estate professionals, their businesses, or their business practices. This code is a standard and holds the real estate industry accountable for its actions and duties. As the field of work in the local market continues in the expansion cycle, the very fabric of its sustainability is ultimately woven on the integrity of the individuals serving it. The golden rule of life now a golden rule to professional Realtors as a reminder “Whatever you would want others to do to you, do so to them.”
